The China National Export Commodities Packaging Research Institute (CEPI) was founded in 1974 and was approved by the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation, authorities and the State Council. CEPI was approved by the State Commission Office for Public Sector Reform as central budgetary institution.
CEPI was approved by the State Council, as the member of the World Packaging Organization (WPO) and the Asian Packaging Federation (APF) and participated in relevant international activities.
CEPI joined International Association of Packaging Research Institute (IAPRI) in 2005.
     Approving by China National standardizing committee, CEPI was responsible for the joint secretariat of the International Organization for Standardization as well as China secretariat, and domestic counter department in charge of technology. It serves as National Technical Committee on Packaging of Standardization Administration of China Packaging and the Environment Secretariat.
     Approved by the Ministry of Commerce, CEPI took the duties of the Quality Inspection of Import and Export Commodities Packaging Technology Service and the Quality Supervision and Inspection Center. CEPI had a complete equipment and instrument of the accredited laboratory under the support of U.N.And as appraisal department for technical achievements in foreign trade system through identification by ministry-level department
     Approved by the Office of the National Awards for Science and Technology, CEPI took responsibility of science and technology award- Packstar Organizing Committee of Recommending Packaging Design.
     CEPI aims to carry out research on packaging technology and promote development of packaging industry.
